Poster design by Henri Gray for ‘Petrole Stella’, a lamp oil, ca. 1897.
Description: In the late 1890s, Gray designed a number of posters which were substantially different from most other posters being designed at the time. They each presented scantily-clad women, or winged faeries, afloat in the cosmos with the products being advertised. The progressive designs exuded more of a science fiction and fantasy feeling than anything close to the prevailing Art Nouveau style; with Phoebus, Cycles Sirius and Cycles Briliant advertising bicycles, and this image for lamp oil.
